(Minneapolis, MN) -- Xcel Energy is asking its customers to scale back their usage of natural gas in Minnesota and other areas of the Upper Midwest. The request follows the explosion of a TransCanada pipeline in Manitoba on Saturday, which damaged two others that are now out of service. The three lines are the main supply of natural gas for Xcel in Minnesota, Wisconsin and North Dakota. Customers are being asked to set their heat at 60 degrees and avoid using natural gas appliances through at least today.
