Wildfire Moves Toward Carlsbad CA, Apartments Evacuated
(Carlsbad, CA) -- People at a Southern California apartment complex are being evacuated as a wildfire closes in. Police in Carlsbad say the fire began around 10:40 this morning and is moving quickly. Helicopters are dropping water on the fire which is burning along El Camino Real. Carlsbad is an oceanside community about 35 miles north of San Diego.

Crews continue to battle the wildfire that prompted thousands of evacuations near San Diego. Cal Fire officials say some 350 firefighters are working the Bernardo Fire and dealing with several flareups. The fire grew overnight to nearly 16-hundred acres but is now 25 percent contained. Fire officials say today's lighter winds are helping their efforts. About five-thousand homes were evacuated Tuesday as flames spread, but those evacuations were lifted later in the night.
