(Phoenix, AZ) -- At least 40 veterans died while they were on a secret waiting list at the Veterans Affairs Health Care System in Phoenix, Arizona. A recently retired VA doctor told CNN last night that the secret list was part of a scheme VA managers in Phoenix designed to hide the fact that as many as 16-hundred veterans were forced to wait months to see a doctor. VA rules require its hospitals to provide care to patients within 14 to 30 days. The doctor says paper records of veterans' first requests for care were shredded as those vets were put on the electronic waiting list that higher-up VA officials never saw.
