U.S. Women's Hockey Team To Skip Opening Ceremony
(Sochi, Russia) -- Don't look for the U.S. women's hockey team at today's Opening Ceremony. The team has decided it is in its best interest to skip the official kickoff of the 2014 Winter Games in order to be fully rested for Saturday's preliminary-round opener against Finland. Head coach Katey Stone says the players approached her with concerns about walking and standing for hours ahead of their first game. The Opening Ceremony isn't expected to end until about 10:30 p.m. local time. By the time the athletes would return to the Olympic Village, it would make for a quick turnaround for a noon faceoff in Sochi .
