(Washington, DC) -- The U.S. is ordering Syria to close its embassy in Washington, DC. Secretary of State John Kerry condemned ongoing atrocities at the hands of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
Syrian diplomats are being expelled but the U.S. is not formally breaking off relations with Syria. The Obama administration has repeatedly called on Assad to step down. Kerry called the Assad regime "illegitimate." Honorary Syrian consulates in Houston, Texas and Troy, Michigan are also being shut down.
