Ukraine, Russia Agree To \"Permanent Ceasefire\" In Eastern Ukraine, Poroshenko Sa

(Undated) -- The Kremlin says Russian President Vladimir Putin has not agreed to a ceasefire announced by Ukraine because Russia is not a party to the conflict. The statement by the Russian government is in direct opposition to a statement made by Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko. The Ukrainian president said earlier today that he and Putin agreed to a permanent ceasefire in eastern Ukraine during a long telephone call. The Kremilin says Putin and Poroshenko agreed on steps toward peace, but that Putin didn't agree to a ceasefire.
The agreement Poroshenko announced this morning covers the mainly Russian-speaking Donbass region, where most of Ukraine's heavy industry is located. The region accounts for nearly one-fifth of Ukraine's economic output. Pro-Russia rebels have been fighting Ukrainian government forces in that area for months. Poroshenko said last week that Russian troops are now fighting alongside rebel forces
