Tentative Deal Reportedly Reached To Avert LIRR Strike
(new York, NY) -- Union leaders in New York say a deal has been reached to avert a crippling Long Island Railroad strike. Two of the labor unions representing LIRR workers are reporting that a tentative agreement has been reached. One of those unions is reporting on its website that a strike has in fact been averted. Both the Metropolitan Transportation Authority and LIRR union reported to the Governor's office in Manhattan this morning to continue talks. Any deal reached would have to be ratified by the unions.
