(New York, NY) -- Adam Silver is officially in as the new commissioner of the National Basketball Association. Silver replaces David Stern, who retired Saturday after 30 years as the top decision-maker in the league. Stern vacates the position 30 years to the day he began his tenure. He is largely credited with taking the NBA from minimal TV exposure to global prominence with some of the highest-paid players in all of sports. Silver was the deputy commissioner of the NBA since 2006. League executive Mark Tatum takes over as the new deputy commissioner.
