(Washington, DC) -- U.S. Senator Al Franken is urging the federal government to take steps to prevent a repeat of this winter's propane shortage in the Upper Midwest. At a Senate hearing yesterday, the Minnesota Democrat called for a stockpile of the fuel to be tapped if another shortage occurs. He called the past winter's situation a crisis. A pipeline was down for more than a month in late 2013, and high demand from frigid temperatures in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan and other states caused prices to skyrocket earlier this year.
