(Undated) -- Saudi Arabia's top religious authority is issuing an edict that drivers who run red lights are committing a "major sin." The Muslim leader had made a similar declaration back in 2010. That was the year a government report showed drivers who ran red lights caused nearly a third of the traffic accidents in the Saudi capital of Riyadh . A more recent report revealed car accidents in Saudi Arabia cause an average of 17 fatalities a day, one of the highest rates in the world.
