(St.Paul, MN) -- A new report from the state Health Department shows a sharp increase in some sexually transmitted diseases in Minnesota last year. Spokeswoman Kris Ehresmann says while our overall rate for STDs increased ten-percent, what we're concerned about is gonorrhea cases increased by 26 percent and syphilis cases increased by 64 percent. Ehresmann says reporting also shows higher chlamydia and gonorrhea infection rates among communities of color and American Indians compared to whites. She says the increase can also be attributed to more cases involving people ages 15-24.
