Rutgers Dismisses Embattled QB Nelson
(Piscataway, NJ) -- Rutgers is dismissing quarterback Philip Nelson from the football team as he fights assault charges. Nelson posted bond and left jail with a towel over his head Monday night, less than 48 hours after allegedly kicking a 24-year-old man in the head outside a Mankato, Minnesota bar over the weekend. Isaac Kolstad, who's a football player at Minnesota State-Mankato, remains in critical condition at the Mayo Clinic. NJ.com reports the incident sparked when Kolstad allegedly flirted with Nelson's girlfriend. Nelson passed for nearly 22-hundred yards and 17 touchdowns for Minnesota the last two seasons. The sophomore was scheduled to sit out a year as a transfer before playing for the Scarlet Knights.
