Police Investigate Beating Of Gay Journalist As Bias Attack
(New York, NY) -- Police are investigating the attack on an openly gay journalist in New York City as a possible hate crime. Randy Gener was discovered unconscious near 54th Street and 7th Avenue during the early morning hours of January 17. The NYPD says Gener suffered head trauma. He has undergone brain surgery at St. Luke's Hospital. Friends and family are asking the public for help in finding the attacker and were scheduled to hold a vigil tonight for Gener, who has worked for a number of media outlets, including the "New York Times" and the "New York Daily News."
