(Arlington, VA) -- Pentagon spokesman John Kirby says the military is still assessing a strike on a key terrorist target in Somalia. Admiral Kirby said the missile attack was conducted by manned and unmanned aircraft and was aimed at the leader of the militant group al-Shabaab. Kirby would not confirm whether the targeted individual, Ahmed Abdi Godane , was killed. Kirby said the strike was conducted on an encampment and a vehicle. He insisted that no U.S. ground forces were utilized in the attack. If it is confirmed that Godane was killed, Kirby said it would be a significant blow to the terrorist group.
