(Washington, DC) -- The White House says Russian President Vladimir Putin put a call in to President Obama to talk about Ukraine today. In that phone call, Obama urged Putin to stop the buildup of troops along its border with Ukraine. He also suggested that Secretary of State John Kerry and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov meet to discuss the next steps in a diplomatic solution. Obama has sought support for a resolution where international monitors would ensure the protection of ethnic Russians in Crimea and that Russian troops would return to their bases.
