Obama Encouraged By Egypt's Cease Fire Proposal
(Washington, DC) -- President Obama says he's encouraged with Egypt's proposal for a cease fire between Israel and Hamas militants in Gaza. Obama told dinner guests at the White House celebrating Ramadan tonight that the continued goal for the U.S. is peace and security for Israelis as well as Palestinians. He sided with Israel saying, "no country can accept rockets fired indiscriminately at citizens" and that Israel has the right to defend itself. Obama also said the death and injury of Palestinian civilians is a tragedy and that people must be protected "regardless of who they are and where they live."
