(Martha's Vineyard, MA) -- President Obama is condemning the beheading of veteran American journalist James Foley. Foley was killed by ISIS militants. Speaking from Martha's Vineyard, the President said the murder has shocked the conscience of the entire world. ISIS claims the beheading was carried out in retaliation for U.S. airstrikes against ISIS targets in Iraq. The terrorist group has threatened to also kill U.S. journalist Steven Sotloff if the airstrikes don't stop. President Obama is expected to remain in Martha's Vineyard all week as he continues a vacation there.
The parents of murdered American journalist James Foley are speaking out after learning of their son's death. John Foley said today his son James was passionate about reporting the news. Diane Foley said her son found his passion and was compelled to go back to the Middle East, even though he was held in a Libyan prison for 44 days back in 2011. ISIS militants posted a YouTube video yesterday that showed Foley's beheading and titled it "A Message To America." The 40-year-old Foley was kidnapped in northern Syria in November of 2012.
