McDonnell Takes Stand In Own Defense

(Richmond, VA) -- Former Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell is distancing himself from his wife in their federal corruption trial. McDonnell took the stand in his own defense Wednesday in Richmond, saying he couldn't have conspired with his wife Maureen because they were estranged at the time. McDonnell and his wife are charged with accepting more than 170-thousand dollars in gifts and loans from former Star Scientific CEO Jonnie Williams. The McDonnells admit they received the gifts and loans from the wealthy Richmond businessman, but say Williams received no special favors in return.
