Japan To Turn Over Nuclear Materials To U.S.
(The Hague, Netherlands) -- Japan is turning over a stockpile of enriched uranium and plutonium to the United States for secure disposal. The White House released a joint statement from President Obama and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe today saying the move would eliminate hundreds of kilograms of highly enriched nuclear material. Both countries hope the elimination of such material will reduce the chance of it being used by criminals and terrorists. The agreement was made as world leaders meet in the Netherlands for a nuclear summit.
