(New York, NY) -- The Indian diplomat whose arrest and strip-search ignited a diplomatic controversy is being indicted again. Devyani Khobragade faces arrest if she returns to the U.S. after being charged with visa fraud and making false statements on a visa application regarding how much she paid her housekeeper. She was indicted by a federal grand jury on the same charges in January. Those charges were dismissed when a federal judge agreed she was protected by diplomatic immunity at the time. Her case drew international attention and outrage from Indian officials who demanded an apology from the United States.
