House Approves VA Accountability Bill

(Washington, DC) -- A bill giving the Veterans Affairs Secretary broader authority to fire or demote senior executives is headed to the Senate. The measure was passed by the House and is the first piece of legislation aimed at a growing controversy with the VA. Up to 40 veterans may have died because of scheduling problems at the VA health clinic in Phoenix. Meantime, there are growing concerns that problems may extend far beyond Phoenix. Embattled VA Secretary Eric Shinseki has ordered a comprehensive review of all VA clinics. Shinseki has resisted growing calls to resign.
