Hagel: Top Priority In Iraq Is Securing U.S. Embassy, Airport

(Arlington, VA) -- Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel says the top priority for the U.S. in Iraq is securing the U.S. embassy and protecting American personnel.
Securing Baghdad's airport is also a priority as Iraq faces a strong insurgency. In a Pentagon briefing, Hagel noted that the U.S. is advising Iraqi security forces. Joint Chiefs Chairman Martin Dempsey said Iraqi forces are putting up better resistance around Baghdad. President Obama has dispatched several hundred U.S. troops to Baghdad, but Hagel insisted they will not be involved in combat operations.
