Hagel Orders Review Of New Army Hairstyle Rules
(Undated) -- Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel is ordering a review of new hairstyle rules for servicewomen. The Army has new rules that ban braids, cornrows, twists, and dreadlocks. More than a dozen women members of the Congressional Black Caucus have complained about restrictions that describe styles as "unkempt" and "matted." Hagel said Tuesday he takes "very seriously" concerns that the rules unfairly target black servicewomen. Hagel says he's giving the services 30 days to review the definitions banned and authorized hairstyles and "revise any offensive language."
