Georgia Inmate Executed, First Since Botched Oklahoma Execution

(Atlanta, GA) -- A Georgia man is the first inmate to be executed in the U.S. since April's botched lethal injection in Oklahoma. People were outside the prison protesting the death penalty, but Cobb County District Attorney Vic Reynolds says sometimes it's necessary.
Marcus Wellons was convicted of the 1989 rape and murder of a 15-year-old girl. The U.S. Supreme Court had earlier denied an eleventh-hour request to block the execution.
