(Woodside, CA) -- Former child star Shirley Temple is dead. The actress, who was known throughout her adult life as Shirley Temple Black, died of natural causes yesterday at her home in the San Francisco Bay Area. Shirley Temple was well-known for her roles in 1930s films such as "Bright Eyes," "Curly Top," and "Heidi." Temple retired from the film industry at 22 before pursuing a career as a foreign diplomat. She served as the U.S. ambassador to Ghana and Czechoslovakia and became the first female Chief of Protocol of the United States.
