First-Time Jobless Claims Fall
(Washington, DC) -- The number of people filing first-time claims for unemployment benefits is down. The Labor Department says it received 291-thousand requests for jobless benefits last week, a drop of about two-thousand from the week prior. Most economists had been expecting initial claims to come in at about 284-thousand.
Continuing claims were also down, falling by 100-thousand for a grand total of two-million, 330-thousand. The Labor Department notes that's the lowest level since January of 2001.
