(Mahnomen, MN) -- Family and friends of the 19-year old charged with the attempted murder of a Norman County Sheriff's Deputy are shocked at the charge. Steven Henderson's foster father Anders Macy says he couldn't believe the news when he heard it. He says Henderson is a "tremendous young man" and the events were completely out of character for him. Henderson, formerly of Fertile, is charged with attempted murder of a peace officer, bringing stolen goods into the state, and two counts of receiving stolen property. Deputy Nathan Warner, who was wearing a bullet resistant vest, was treated and released after being shot two times. Henderson's younger brother is in custody in Thief River Falls on an unrelated warrant. His arrest Tuesday set off the entire incident. Henderson, whose bail is set at one-and-a-half-million dollars, will be back in court May 7th.
