(San Diego, CA) -- A California family rescued hundreds of miles out at sea, is defending their decision to go boating with a sick child. Two weeks ago, Eric and Charlotte Kaufman and their one and three year old daughters set sail on a new leg of their around-the-world journey. They sent out a satellite distress call over the weekend, saying one of their daughters had become violently sick, and their boat had lost its steering and communication abilities. The family said Sunday they are proud of their decision to go sailing with their baby, and thanked the Navy for the rescue. Authorities say the Kaufmans will be taken via helicopter to San Diego, and should arrive Tuesday morning.
