ESPN Suspends Stephen A. Smith Over Domestic Violence Remarks
(Undated) -- ESPN is telling Stephen A. Smith to take the rest of the week off. The sports cable channel has suspended the commentator over his controversial remarks on domestic violence. Smith apologized for what he called "the most egregious error" of his career on Monday's edition of "First Take," but his comments continue to draw criticism. ESPN said Tuesday that Smith would not appear on "First Take" or ESPN Radio for the next week, adding that he would return to ESPN next Wednesday.

Speaking out on the two-game suspension handed down by the NFL to Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice last week, Smith said on Friday's edition of "First Take" that victims of domestic violence need to be mindful of "the elements of provocation." Rice was caught on surveillance video dragging his unconscious fiancee out of an elevator.
