Prince Charles turns 65 on Thursday, the usual retirement age for British workers, but he's still waiting to take up the job he has been destined for since birth.
The eldest son of Britain's Queen Elizabeth II has been heir to the throne for more than 60 years. Over the decades of waiting, he has become known for his strong opinions on topics such as education, architecture, religion, the environment, organic food and homeopathy.
Here's a gallery of images, from the prince's childhood to the present day.
