Clay Aiken Running For Congress
(Undated) -- Former "American Idol" contestant Clay Aiken is seeking more votes. This time, Clay is rallying the masses for his bid for Congress.
Aiken announced plans to run for office as a Democrat in his home state of North Carolina in a campaign video launched Wednesday. In the clip, titled "Open Door," the 35-year-old singer discusses his humble beginnings and how his mother sought refuge from his abusive father at a friend's house. Clay also highlighted some of his achievements as a special education teacher, an Ambassador for UNICEF and working with former President George W. Bush to address the challenges of children with special needs.

Rumblings about Aiken's potential bid for office first surfaced late last year. He's hoping to unseat second-term Representative Renee Ellmers in North Carolina's second congressional district.
