Charlotte Mayor Resigns After Corruption Charges

(Charlotte, NC) -- Charlotte's mayor is resigning in the wake of federal corruption charges. Patrick Cannon was arrested today after a four-year investigation by the FBI on charges that he took tens of thousands of dollars in bribes. Undercover agents pretending to be investors and real estate developers gave the democrat more than 48-thousand dollars worth of cash and gifts since January of last year. In the most recent case, agents say he was given 20-thousand dollar in cash last month. Mayor Cannon could face more than 20 years in prison if convicted on all charges.
