FSU Quarterback Winston Cleared In Sexual Assault Case
Friday, December 6, 2013
(Tallahassee, FL) -- Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston is not being charged with sexual assault. Florida State Attorney Willie Meggs said there's not enough evidence to move forward with the case.
A 19-year-old woman told police Winston raped her last December. A felony charge would have resulted in Winston's immediate suspension from the team. Winston is considered the frontrunner for the Heisman Trophy, and FSU is number one in the BCS standings.
Florida State Attorney Willie Meggs said there were two sets of DNA in the case, and one was unidentified.
Meggs insisted his office wasn't influenced by the pressure of FSU's success this football season.
