CDC: Tighten Painkiller Controls

(Atlanta, GA) -- Painkiller controls need tightening. That's the opinion of the Centers for Disease Control, based on its latest painkiller-prescription survey. Last year, doctors wrote 259-million opioid painkiller prescriptions. That's one for every adult American. The survey also shows there's a wide discrepancy in where the drugs are prescribed. Alabama leads the nation in prescribing opioid pain pills, with Tennessee and West Virginia not far behind.
The CDC says the U.S. has the highest per-capita consumption of opiate painkillers in the world.
