Baby May Have Been Cured of HIV
(Boston, MA) -- Researchers say a nine-month-old baby with HIV may have been cured after receiving treatment for the disease just four hours after her birth. This is the second case in which doctors have been able to bring a newborn's HIV into remission by administering antiretroviral drugs. The other baby in Mississippi is now three and a-half-years-old and stopped getting the HIV treatments two years ago. The nine-month-old was born outside Los Angeles and is being treated at Miller Children's Hospital. Doctors say she continues to receive a three-drug cocktail of anti-AIDS treatments. Both of the babies' mothers were infected with HIV.
