Judge Rules Brain Dead Girl Can Be Taken Off Life Support

(Oakland, CA) -- A judge has ruled that a brain dead teenage girl can be taken off of a ventilator at Children's Hospital Oakland in northern California. The ruling came following testimony earlier today by an independent doctor who concluded that Jahi McMath was brain dead and wouldn't be able to recover any brain function. The ruling won't take effect until late Monday afternoon in order to give the girl's family time to file an appeal, if they wish. McMath suffered major complications in the days following December 9th surgery to remove her tonsils.
