(Undated) -- A new Palestinian unity government is now in office. Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas swore in the new government today. Abbas said it signals the end of a division that has damaged the cause of a Palestinian state. The new government is being seated just over six weeks after Abbas's western-back Palestine Liberation Organization and Hamas , which the U.S. considers a terrorist group, signed a surprise reconciliation agreement. The pact is designed to end years of sometimes bloody disagreement between the two factions.
