(Washington, DC) -- President Obama is formally announcing his intention to nominate Senator Max Baucus as the new U.S. ambassador to China. The Montana Democrat chairs the powerful Senate Finance Committee. He previously announced that he will not seek re-election next year. In a statement, the President called Baucus perfectly suited for the new job after spending more than two decades working to "deepen the relationship between the United States and China." The 72-year-old Baucus has been in the Senate since 1978.
