(Minneapolis, MN) -- Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak is going out with a bang. In his last press conference as mayor before he leaves office at midnight tonight, Rybak announced a new 7th Street entrance into downtown and the replacement of part of 5th Street with a pedestrian walkway. That section of road connecting downtown to the West Bank will be named for Hussein Samatar, who became the first Somali-American elected to city office in 2010. Rybak told reporters the West Bank has become "an island separate from the rest of the city" despite its reputation as a magnet for generations of immigrants.
