(Washington, DC) -- A bill extending jobless benefits is being blocked by Republicans in the Senate. Tuesday's procedural vote on a Democratic bill failed to hit a 60-vote threshold in the 100-member Senate. The tally was 52-48. Longterm benefits for more than one-point-three million Americans expired on December 28th. Republicans and Democrats are locked in a dispute over paying for an extension of the aid. The White House continues to pressure both chambers of Congress to approve the extension as soon as possible.
