Vikings Break Ground On New Stadium

(Minneapolis, MN) -- With the turn of a few shovels, the construction of the new Minnesota Vikings stadium is officially underway. The ceremonial groundbreaking was held yesterday in the Metrodome parking lot, with the Dome scheduled to be demolished as the new stadium goes up. The Vikings will play the next two years outside for the first time since the early 1980s, as they will share TCF Bank Stadium with the University of Minnesota. The new stadium will cost nearly one-billion dollars and is set to open in 2016.
