(Golden Valley, MN) -- Fred Jenness earned a Purple Heart 44 years ago fighting in Vietnam, but didn't receive it until yesterday. The "Star Tribune" reports his mission was classified and it took digging by the office of Senator Amy Klobuchar to confirm what happened. Jenness was presented with the medal by Senator Klobuchar at Golden Valley City Hall, and said it brought back a lot of memories. He was wounded in December, 1969 by North Vietnamese troops and was awarded the Combat Action Ribbon and the Vietnam Service Medal, but it took persuading by his family to get his Purple Heart.
