(Washington, DC) -- Senator Tom Coburn is leaving Congress with two years left on his term. The Oklahoma Republican released a statement Thursday saying he will step down at the end of this year. The 65-year-old physician said his battle against recurring cancer is not the reason he is resigning. Coburn served six year in the House before standing by a pledge to step down after three terms. He returned to politics in 2004 when he was elected to the Senate.
