Movie Ticket Prices Hit Record High In 2013

(Undated) -- If you felt like you were paying more to go to the movies last year, you probably were. The National Association of Theater Owners says the average ticket price rose to a record high in 2013 with a growing number of high-profile 3D and IMAX releases carrying surcharges for those formats. According to the Theater Owners group, the average ticket price rose a little more than two percent in 2013 to eight-dollars-and-13 cents, compared to seven-dollars-and-96 cents in 2012.
Ticket prices hit a record high average of eight-dollars-and-38 cents in the second quarter of 2013 with movies like "Iron Man 3" and "Man Of Steel" shoring up the 3D releases during that period. And movies such as "Gravity" and "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" took ticket prices back up to an average of eight-dollars-and-35 cents in the fourth quarter after topping out at seven-dollars-and-84 cents during the third quarter of 2013.
