25th Anniversary of Exxon Valdez Accident, Oil Spill
(Anchorage, AK) -- Today marks the 25th anniversary of the devastating Exxon Valdez oil spill. The tanker dumped an estimated eleven million gallons of crude oil in Prince William Sound, Alaska when it crashed into a reef, causing one of the biggest man-made environmental disasters in history. The oil tanker's captain, Joseph Hazelwood received a fine, community service and eventually apologized to the people of Alaska, but always maintained the accident was not his fault.
