(Washington, DC) -- White House spokesman Jay Carney claims another extension of unemployment benefits is the "right thing to do." Longterm unemployment benefits will expire on December 28th. Carney cited a new White House report which says unemployment payments benefit the overall economy. Congress passed the Emergency Unemployment Compensation program in 2008 after the Wall Street meltdown prompted the deep recession. Roughly one-point-three million people are still struggling to find work in the sluggish recovery.
