Christie budget message expected to focus on Sandy

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie has put out a video clip, ahead of his budget address, entitled "Saving Lives Lasts Forever."

The video, described as a "budget teaser," appears to present the theme of his address Tuesday to the Legislature but offers no budget details.

Christie says in the clip it's probably wrong to focus on one's legacy as a governor but that doesn't mean "you shouldn't be conscious of it."

As governor he says you hope some of the things you do will be permanent. He says budgets come and go and taxes go up and down but "saving lives ... that lasts forever."

Christie is expected to deliver an austere budget address at 3 p.m. that focuses on the rebuilding after Superstorm Sandy.
