Plane crash kills 3 in Maine; investigators arrive

OWLS HEAD, Maine (AP) - Federal investigators are at the scene of a plane crash along Maine's coast that killed three people aboard the aircraft.

Identification of the victims awaits a review by the state medical examiner.

Knox County Regional Airport Manager Jeff Northgraves said Saturday that investigators from the Federal Aviation Administration are at the scene and officials from the National Transportation Safety Board are due to arrive Saturday afternoon.

The medical examiner was in the process of removing the bodies to Augusta so they can be identified.

The single-engine Cessna 172 crashed after hitting a truck on the runway Friday evening. It was destroyed by flames, so there was no way to see its identifying number, but Northgraves says officials are "fairly sure" it was not a local aircraft.
