Indigenous Peruvians hold native bullfights

LIMA, Peru (AP) - Scores of highland Indians gathered outside a bullfighting ring on the outskirts of Peru's capital over the weekend to celebrate a festival tied to their Andean hometown of Huanuco.

The Yawar Toro center on Lima's outskirts is the site of native celebrations held year-round by indigenous people who have moved to Lima from the country's highlands. Different groups use the center to organize bullfights and concerts, mark the feast days of patron saints and hold other celebrations popular in their native communities.

In addition to three bullfights held Sunday, natives of Huanuco also celebrated their roots with music, dance and food.
