'Glee' producer Ryan Murphy to honor Norman Lear

NEW YORK (AP) - "Glee" co-creator Ryan Murphy is getting a chance to pay tribute to his American idol, legendary TV producer Norman Lear, at the 40th International Emmy Awards.

Murphy says his shows "Glee" and "The New Normal" were inspired by Lear's sitcoms like "All in the Family," which mixed humor with an honest examination of social issues.

At Monday's International Emmy Awards ceremony in New York, Murphy will present the 40th Anniversary Special Founders Award to Lear and "M(asterisk)A(asterisk)S(asterisk)H" star Alan Alda. Organizers wanted to honor people who had groundbreaking shows on TV in 1972 when the International Emmys began.

Thirty-eight nominees from 15 countries will compete for International Emmys in nine categories. British productions received a leading seven nominations, including best actor and actress nods for Jason Isaacs and Joanna Vanderham.
